Market Zone is an itinerant and interdisciplinary festival that favours artistic interventions and research in situ, in the markets of the Piazza Seminario in Cuneo (Italy) and the Marché de la Libération in Nice (France).

Market Zone is a project set up by the curators Claire Migraine (thankyouforcoming) and Michela Sacchetto, and the associations DEL'ART and Art.ur, respectively directed by Florence Forterre and Michela Giuggia.

Market Zone takes place in 2013 - 2014 and brings together 15 participants with specific interests, including visual arts, graphics and design, but also architecture, urban planning, scenography, sociology, anthropology and history.

After a week in Cuneo in October 2013, the participants met for a workshop in Nice in November, in order to discover the city, the Liberation market, the local actors etc. Following this residency, the artists are working on the projects and works that will be exhibited in September 2014 in Nice.

The workshop took place in a number of partner venues: the Villa Arson, the Musée national Marc Chagall, La Zonmé, Court Circuit, Hi-LaB, the Nice-Côte d'Azur tramway, Loft - Galerie Sandrine Mons, the Direction de l'urbanisme, Vin de Terre, the Collège Vernier, the EMAP - Villa Thiole etc.

ART AND PUBLIC SPACE

Using the generic theme of art in the public space, questions about the place of artists and works in architecture and urbanism, in inhabited, constructed and lived spaces, will be addressed. Based on examples of works commissioned by artists in France and in the PACA region, and around the Nice-Côte d'Azur tramway, it will be a question of art in cities, their relationship with the environment, the consideration of complex situations by artists, the constraints imposed by public commissions, cultural policies, the reception of works by inhabitants, their maintenance and their future.

A discussion will follow between the speakers, the artists and teams of Market Zone, and the audience.
